Biography

Michael Cross has written about technology-driven change for newspapers, magazines and specialist journals for well over 40 years. In that time, he has reported from more than 50 countries on seven continents – and seen his own industry turned inside out by innovations from computerised typesetting to the multimedia web.

Michael has followed developments in expert systems and artificial intelligence since the 1980s and as a founder of the Guardian’s ‘free our data’ campaign helped set the current ‘big data’ agenda.

He is currently on the staff of the Law Society Gazette where he combines his role as news editor with that of specialist contributor on topics including data policy, artificial intelligence and blockchain.
